This is a permanent position in Nanaimo, the new team member must be committed to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10:00pm to 8:00am with the possibility for additional hours.

Under the direction of the Program Residential Manager and Director of Community Housing, the Adult Residential Support worker will:

  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living involving their personal, social, physical, recreational, vocational, educational, and environmental needs
  • Will promote respectful treatment of individuals and defend individual rights, including demonstration of a high degree of tolerance for the individual’s unique personalities and needs
  • Support individuals to communicate needs, choices and preferences, and to support the use of inclusive communication strategies
  • Guide and promote a friendly and effective working relationship with other residential and outreach team members
  • Perform all duties in a safe, efficient, and respectful manner to promote choice, independence, and integration for the individuals receiving our services
  • Provide medication administration or monitoring depending on the individual
  • Ensure the individuals nutritional needs are being met within the home
  • Ensure the individuals in care are provided with a safe, secure home environment which promotes independence and choice
  • Have open communication with all levels of management
  • Uphold the Policies and Procedures of Bonaventure Support Services Ltd and carry out our Mission statement, Values and Code of Ethics to the best of their abilities
  • Adhere to any relevant Legislation and Regulations (i.e. Community Care Facility Act Adult Regulations, Standards for Residential Settings and Motor Vehicle Act, CLBC, CARF, WCB-WorkSafe-BC)

Qualifications:

  • Preferred form education (i.e. CSW, RCA, SIVA etc.) and/or work experience with persons with disabilities and/or other relevant experience
  • Excellent interpersonal behavior and communication skills (ability to interact effectively with persons and team members)
  • The desire and ability to work with persons with disabilities and demonstrated personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, individuality, and spirit
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be in good health, free of communicable diseases
  • Provide strong leadership to team and individuals
  • Be organized and able to work in a high stress environment
  • Show a high standard of professionalism

The Parksville Outreach Support Team has a part-time position available and is looking for an energetic, flexible, experienced support worker to join the team. Support is done primarily in the community and the Support Worker reports to the Director of Community Inclusion.

The qualified applicant will be flexible in their availability and willing to work afternoons, evenings and weekends. This person will have the desire to make a difference in the lives of adults 19 + years old. The new team member will work within a larger interdisciplinary team to provide a program which will include recreation, life skills, social opportunities, regulation skills, may include some personal care and other opportunities that are set out by the team.

If you feel you have the qualifications, skill set and desire to make a difference in a person’s life, we look forward to hearing from you. These adults could present with the following; non-verbal, personal care needs, aggressive behaviour, aggressive language, possibility of elopement, attachment disorder, could have had some type of trauma in their lives which manifests as behaviours to name a few. If you have worked with vulnerable youth and/or adults, hold a CYC, CSW, or relevant certificates, diplomas or degrees OR are passionate about supporting people and wish to make a difference, we would love to talk with you.

These are some of the responsibilities and duties that will be required:

  • Working 1-1 with individuals in their residential home, or in a 3:1 setting
  • Working with the adult and/or youth program or within the community at large
  • Providing a recreational based program that allows the adult/youth to explore safely
  • Communicating with the team through documentation, meetings and log books
  • Promote health and safety at all times
  • Have patience and understanding of the individual and the situation
  • Ability to show patience and understanding is necessary
  • Ability to work independently an as part of a team to best support the individuals

The qualified applicant will be able to provide the following:

  • Education and/or experience working with youth/adults with developmental disabilities and with challenging behaviours (SIVA, CSW, CYC, etc.)
  • Must be 19 years of age
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License

  • Current Ministry of Health Approved First Aid Certificate including CPR
